Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a couple things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can get clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 239-908-6991 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
