What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Naples always writes about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it actually mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these standards, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas relevant to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst

You can count on the technicians at Service Experts to be highly qualified and professional to do the work right the first time. Our team has the knowledge and skill set to not only fix and service your HVAC systems, but to take the ultimate care of your equipment.
