Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioner around the clock to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to stop by and complete your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the ground around your system to clear away twigs and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the A/C and trim back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Also, a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your A/C isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your utility bills.

An annual A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills.
