Common Naples AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

Last year we published several of the most common air conditioning problems Naples faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some common AC issues that you can help troubleshoot.

The air conditioning system is on but not putting out cool air.

If your air conditioner is running but not truly cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels examined. Refrigerant is needed to make sure the air blowing from the A/C is actually cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the large one is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are probably good to go and don’t require extra refrigerant.

If you’re not convinced or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll stop by and examine your refrigerant levels and learn why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t turning.

There are several reasons your condenser fan isn’t rotating. One is that it merely burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is hindered. If you can verify these things, you may be able to discover the issue; but, if not, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can find out what is preventing your condenser fan from circulating and review your options to get your air conditioning problem fixed.

Your air conditioning system is not providing adequate air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try lowering your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your AC cooling, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another problem that could cause your lack of cooling is an A/C system that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are built. Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and do an analysis to determine if the size of your air conditioner is causing your troubles.

A/C system shuts on and off repeatedly

If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of many things. One possibility is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved aside, you may be back to a typical running air conditioner. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes the house to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work overtime to keep your family cool and comfortable.

No matter your issue, whatever usual or unusual AC issue you run into, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you around the clock. We are available to you so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
